Please...somebody convince me to not give up. Years ago. when one of my close friends lost his only son to the War in Iraq I made a decision. I decided that from that point out I would not longer sit back and accept what the right wing was telling me was absolute truth. I began to challenge the information I was receiving. I began to read everything I could get my hands on about controversial issues and then made an independent decision on what the truth was. I began to challenge the steady diet of propaganda I was seeing on Fox News and regularly exposed them for their unparalleled bias. I began to lose friends along the way because I challenged their cognitive dissonance and their willingness to absorb half truths and out and out lies about the Obama administration. After several years of doing this I am tired and burned out. I say this because the onslaught of misinformation continues stronger than ever and louder than my ears can endure. Last night on Fox I saw the Obama administration being pilloried for something that was so far from the truth it was very nearly laughable. A trio of Fox talking heads informed the audience that the Obama administration was sending some of the kids massing on the Texas border to a five star hotel in McAllen, TX at tax payer expense. The hotel was portrayed as palace having three swimming pools, a sauna, WI FI, room service, daily maid service and all of the accoutrements a beautiful resort would have. Of course, the Fox idea was to portray Obama as wasting tax payer money by coddling illegals with unnecessary expense in typical bleeding heart liberal fashion. A cursory examination of the facts, however, revealed something quite different. The hotel was a rat trap inhabited by roaches and filthy, while the beautiful swimming pools were in fact green slime-filled unmaintained pits hardly fit for swimming. Obviously, the Obama administration was NOT guilty of miss-spending tax payer dollars but had chosen the hotel because it was the less expensive facility it could find. Once again Fox News warped the truth so far that it wasnt recognizable. Im tired, folks. The right wing has its own lie machine. It is a well-oiled, super-functioning machine that churns out fallacious information faster than most people can absorb it. It provides a steady diet of vicious opposition to truth as part of an unrelenting echo chamber that is bought and paid for by a extremely dangerous plutocracy which has usurped the democracy and turned it into its own personal handmaiden. I dont recognize my country anymore. We have been divided and are dangerously close to being conquered. And I am running out of steam. I woke up this morning wanting throw my arms up in the air and say, whats the use? There are more of them than I can effectively deal with. My energy is nearly spent. There is a voice inside me that tells me it is wrong to give up but that voice is less audible than it once was. I need someone to tell me to stop the negative feeling and stop giving up.
