Please take a few minutes to read this before listening to this beasutiful song: Kalat Melekh (a kings bride). I draw strength from these songs and the stories behind them. I hope you do too. The Israeli philosopher and writer Shlomo Kalo passed away yesterday. His wife is Rivkah Zohar Kalo, one of Israels singers who has a voice that moves hearts. After years of drug abuse and depression that almost led to her death, Rivka Zohar meets the philosopher and writer Shlomo Kalo in 1988. After reading his books she will say: Ive come home. In them she will find the answer how to live with her sorrow and in days to come she will thank him, saying: To my husband Shlomo Kalo - without whom I wouldnt be here, who put me on a path of life worthy of living. Shlomo Kalo takes the singer under his wings and it will be 20 years of silence till she sings and performs again. Shlomo Kalo will write for her the songs Avi Hatov Shebashamaim, Amazing Grace will get his wonderful translation, Sipur Al Tsipor, Lichyot Otam Ad Tom about which she will say: to live means to struggle, to struggle means to love. On one of the days of the year 2004, on their way back from abroad, their hearts will flow with joy and they will be say: From high above the white houses of Tel Aviv and its sands are seen and in this dry boniness is treasured something ancient and a song erupts, that is woven in the soul, testifying on the grace that will never sever, between our hearts and this land. Early in the morning Shlomo Kalo will sit on his bed and write, and the words will flow full of ancient grace and the spirit of a free man and he will name it Kalat Melech - Kings Bride. … And there is no song like it. And it is the most beautiful, perfect, sublime among my songs. Note: the song is based on an old Israeli song called Anu Ohavim Otakh Moledet (We love you, our homeland) written by Natan Alterman. My tranlation follows the Hebrew lyrics: Trabslation: A new light shines through the blue sky The sea breeze is galloping through space We love you our homeland In peaceful times, in crisis and in battle From the north, mountains and the Kineret We will climb our ancestral path Well build for you and grow, our homeland With prayer, vigor in the heart and glory An enemy or a treacherous hand A warrior on the Gilad We will love you, our homeland In holiness, forever We will establish you, flourishing, entirely glorious The kings bride, mother of the prophets From Yam-Soof (red sea), the Gardens front (or: east of the garden) homeland We will sanctify with hymns and psalms If an enemy or a treacherous hand rises up against us If a warrior falls on the Gilad (mountain) We will love you for eternity, our homeland You are to us in holiness, forever A new light shines through the blue sky The sea breeze is galloping through space We love you our homeland In peaceful times, in crisis and in battle Jodie Goldberg Lori Hartwick Tabs Caplan Emma RobinsonDavid Dome Beverlee Swayze Herschel Chomsky Diane Bederman Rachel Bee Sarah Williams Miriam Kresh Eitan Divinsky Merilee Shaw https://youtube/watch?v=tMH-FcqDfUk
