For Germany it is The Day of Reunification and the most important public holiday. After the second World War we got splittet in Sectors of the victor powers. But the actual division orginated by the Iron Curtain 1961-1990. In the east of the russian communists and in the west the capitalist western powers. So many people got killed at this border, families got torn, friends got devided. For a Country like mine, which has seen so many blood and dead bodies only a few years ago, means that we cant split countries in two parts if the residents are not willing, and vice versa !! To honor the fallen fighters and activists, who regardless of their own life fought for the freedom and the peace, we have to keep that in minde.
