Slowly reading a fascinating book about Lost Christianities. One of the stories is about Kujau, the man who forged the Hitler Diaries in the eighties. He forged the diaries, fooled a lot of people, got vast sums of money, got exposed, and was imprisoned. He was famous enough on his release to start up his own career openly selling his forgeries - hed paint something by Renoir, and sign it with both Renoirs name and his own. These became quite valuable, which of course led to the market being flooded with forged copies of his forgeries, which undercut his income considerably.
