Please take the time to watch this awesome video. The video shows a retreat with students from Villanova University. We found out about LEVEL last spring through Frankie Kineavy and his friend Ariana. They together founded Level to bridge the gap between students with various abilities and disabilities. Theyve done amazing things, and just ran the Philly half marathon. The students began the group with the help of faculty adviser Greg Hannah who was Frankies teaching assistant through high school at Manasquan and college. Greg was one of our Emilys favorite people and teachers at MHS, and he coached her freshman year. Watch the video and see why, what an amazing movement. We believe that there is a serious lack of understanding on campus, and in the world about individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities that had led to unjust differences in the way that people are treated, as well as the opportunities available to them, based on whether or not they are born “able bodied.” LEVEL pushes all student members to grow internally by learning about others, as well as our shared abilities. We are recognizing our discomfort, and are consequently pushing ourselves to eliminate it by destroying assumptions, stereotypes, generalization and misconceptions about intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and the people who have them.
