Please watch this video. This is one video has summed up by biggest disappointment and concern and experience with social media. I feel that the bad is outweighing the good effects of social media. And this video has done an eloquent job of expressing my feelings. From my perspective I feel that social media is a large factor in the decline of our society, I feel cornered into participating in social media because ofthe rest of societies growing unwillingness to communicate the old fashioned way - face to face or through a phone call. I am as much a contributor to this problem as I am a victim. I see a decline in our youth and in every generation since my generation . We have lost social skills, courtesies and respect. Respect is no longer given as a courtesy for being older or for being a fellow human being. Parents are not teaching their children these skills because they themselves lack these skills because they were affected by this social decline. Their children were not the first generation. People including parents are more narcissistic than I can ever remember. Be a parent first and worry about your selfies later. Social media is adversely impacting parental skills and the behavior of our youth. Egos seem to be rampant . Not everyone cares what your opinion is and yet everyone feels that the world wants to know their opinion. Im not saying that the sharing of ideas or perspectives is bad, but I hear a lot more egotistical and arrogant posts being made. I have experienced more misunderstandings, break ups, and unnecessary arguments due to social media and texting. I like a deep heart felt conversation and it takes 20 msgs and an hour to convey what I could have said in two minutes. Something well intentioned is taken wrong and then it takes another hour to unravel the confusion. I do much better when I can hear your voice or see your face and takes cues from your vocalizations or body language. I miss the old days when I could hear your voices or look you in the eyes... With all this time to ourselves our society seems much less empathetic, or compassionate and it is being replaced with self -centered ness. Something is broken in our society and Ive observed this over the last 20+ years... This video sums it up.. Go out and be a productive part of society . Contribute back to society . The world owes you nothing. Stop being selfish and self absorbed. It makes me wonder what my grandparents thought of me and my generation .... Food for thought!
