Ploughing through a transcript of a Journal of a keen organic gardener. I keep reading it in snatches, getting depressed and on a few occasions reduced to tears. He lived with his wife and children, in a purpose built community in a beautiful house with views of mountains, forests and lakes. A strict vegetarian, animal lover, lover of art and the classics. His light workload enabled him to experiment with different natural methods of growing an assortment of different veg. Some really amazing insights. The sad part is that he is an officer in the SS, part of the staff of a work camp. He has slaves to help do the garden work and if any are caught pilfering, it is a one way ticket to Auschwitz. There is a childrens farm with rabbits, baby goats and lambs. There is a falconry court, Zoological Gardens with more exotic animals, where the occasional prisoner is thrown in with the Bears. The garden paths are made of human bones laid in a pattern. I cannot write anymore of this.:(
