Ploughmans Porter - A Beer For The Hardworking (Or Not!) While many of its origin stories are probably apocryphal, it is certain that the dark, roasty style of beer today called Porter has been brewed for at least 3 centuries. Contemporary accounts of the 18th & 19th century typically describe Porter as having 2 classes: Porter and a stronger version referred to as brown stout. Today Porter and Stout are no longer synonymous, Porter is now a smaller beer still brewed with the traditional dark malts. Clandestines Ploughmans Porter is brewed in the style of the London classic. Popular for its dark color and strong flavors and aromas of coffee, chocolate and roasted malt, Ploughmans tames the astringency of the original with British caramel malts. Just enough British hops are added to yield a subdued bitterness that balances the heavy malt body of this dark and characterful beer. Vital Stats 1.062 OG / ABV TBD / 24 IBU
