Poem from Quentin (Old Guy) Old Guy Dancing How many people does it take to light up the night? Saturday night? An only-the-dead-dont-dance band was playing in Central Park and hundreds were watching, sitting on wooden folding chairs, or standing, all as if they had never seen a band before. No dancing but Old Guy began moving a little where he was standing out at the edge of the crowd. Those around him smiled and nodded “yes.” At a distance he saw a gaggle of university students. One girl was lightly dancing in place alone. He knew she wouldnt want to dance with an older fellow but she came over beside him and they grooved together. Flash bulbs popped and a second student came beside them. Then the whole group joined, dancing in a circle behind the audience. Watchers nearby loved it. The band stopped. It was between songs. Old Guy signaled the first dancer to follow him as he snaked through the crowd to the dance floor and pointed to it, questioningly. She looked at the empty floor and the hundreds of watchers. She had smiling eyes, angel-like young skin. She was all fresh first spring flowers. She nodded an emphatic...YESSSSSSS! The band began again and they hit the floor as did all who had joined them before and had followed them through the crowd... all so young, and this time in their lives, so beautiful. A burst of applause from spectators, as rain on a tin roof, smiles, and so much joy. Many watchers jumped up, joined them until the floor was full. How many does it take to light up the night? One.......okay........two.
