Your hostess will be the wonderful Tawny Powell Your feature will be the powerful Roscoe Burnems. Bio: Richmond Virginia native, Douglas Powell/Roscoe Burnems, began sharing his work as a senior in high school. Drawing inspiration from Hip-Hop, he’s always had a desire to be an impact on his audience’s hearts with his knack for public speaking. Burnems greatest accomplishment in slam so far is being one-fifth of the 2014 National Poetry Slam Championship team, The DC Beltway Slam Team. Roscoe is in the business of inspiring and being inspired. We also will have a poetry workshop prior to the open mic. Poetry Workshop: The workshop will be on addressing cycles in poetry in both linear time and not following a traditional timeline. Participants will be challenged to write about a generational curse or destructive cycle they have seen, starting from where it began and how these cycles continue.
