Poetry is an art that disturbs the comfortable, and comforts the disturbed. As cliché as that sounds, its true. Often times I listen to other poets who say things I dont like or agree with, but I honor and respect them as artists. Something inspired that artist to say what they said and how they said it. Often times I dont pay attention to the underlying message of a poet, but the beauty of how they are able to artistically manipulate language to paint a picture or invoke an emotion in me as a listener. Poetry is a platform for the voiceless, and even though it might seem that everyone is saying the same thing you can tell that they are doing it in different ways. Perhaps we need to listen closer.
