Pohamba urges beneficiation of Namibian natural resources Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba on Wednesday said the local business sector needs to change its mentality of exporting natural resources, saying it will not help the country create wealth and jobs.Speaking during the opening of the second edition of Made in Namibia Expo 2014, Pohamba implored the business community to acquire manufacturing technologies to enable them to beneficiate the country’s natural resources. Pohamba noted that Namibia was endowed with abundant natural resources such as base metals, minerals and precious stones and plenty of agricultural products such as beef, game, marine products, cereals, fruits and vegetables. He said most of these products are exported in their raw or semi-processed state to other countries where they are processed and made into finished consumer products. “It is, therefore, important that more is done to encourage local entrepreneurs and investors to expand their manufacturing operations or to establish such operations in different sectors of the economy”.
