Pokemon in mythology. XY and Z pokemon and Norse Mythology: This is a colab between myself and an admin on my other page that goes by the admin tag Lord Absol. Yveltl is based off of Hraesvelgr. Hraesvelgr is a giant who takes an eagle form. According to the poem Vafbruonir from the Poetic Edda, he sits at the end of the world (or northern edge of the heavens) and causes the wind to blow when he beats his wings in flights. This is repeated by Snorri in the Gylfaginning section of his Prose Edda. The old Norse meaning of Hraesvelgr is Corpse Swallower. Xerneas is based off of Dainn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr, Durabror and Eikbyrnir. Dainn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr, and Durabror are four stags that crane their necks to chomp at branches of the Yggdrasil. Eikbyrnir is a stag which stands upon Valhalla. Xerneass tree form he turns into every 1000 years is thought to be based off of Yggdrasil, The world tree, ( If memory serves me right). Yggdrasil is an immense tree that is central in Norse cosmology, in connection to which the nine worlds exist. Yggdrasil is an immense ash tree that is central and considered very holy. The gods go to Yggdrasil daily to assemble at their things. The branches of Yggdrasil extend far into the heavens, and the tree is supported by three roots that extend far away into other locations; one to the well Urðarbrunnr in the heavens, one to the spring Hvergelmir, and another to the well Mímisbrunnr. Creatures live within Yggdrasil, including the wyrm (dragon) Níðhöggr, an unnamed eagle, and the stags Dáinn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr and Duraþrór. Conflicting scholarly theories have been proposed about the etymology of the name Yggdrasill, the possibility that the tree is of another species than ash, the relation to tree lore and to Eurasian shamanic lore, the possible relation to the trees Mímameiðr and Læraðr, Hoddmímis holt, the sacred tree at Uppsala, and the fate of Yggdrasil during the events of Ragnarök. Zygarde is based off of Nidhogg and Jormungand. Nidhogg is a dragon that gnaws at a root of the world tree, Yggdrasil. In historical viking society Nib was a term for a social stigma. Jormungand is a serpent and one of Lokis children. Odin took Jormungand and threw him into the ocean that encircles Midgard, he then grew so large that he is able to surround the earth and grasp his tail. Should Jormungand let go of his tail, the world shall end. ~Lady Trevenant ~Lord Absol
