Police Brutality Targeting Black Men Must Stop United We Dream supports “This Stops Today Campaign” WASHINGTON, D.C. – Recent news about the lack of an indictment in the brutal killing of Eric Garner, coming on the heels of a similar miscarriage of justice in the case of Michael Brown has sparked a national outrage and demand for justice. Felipe Sousa-Rodriguez, Managing Depurty Director of United We Dream issued the following statement: “This is not what justice is supposed to look like. This is not what America is supposed to look like. United We Dream wholeheartedly supports the This Stops Today Campaign, the Garner family and the campaigns four core demands. For too long, political leaders have swept violence perpetrated against people of color - especially violence perpetrated against Black men and boys by out of control police - under the rug. The systemic lack of accountability for the killing of Eric Garner, Ramarley Graham, Mike Brown, Akai Gurley, John Crawford, Tanisha Anderson, Tamir Rice, is appalling. We must not allow their lives to be stolen in vain. United We Dream knows that systemic problems can only be solved when communities affected by injustice bring that injustice out of the shadows and organize to change the system. While we grieve with the Garner family, we applaud the resilient community organizers who have articulated the pain felt by so many into this campaigns clear demands. United We Dream stands ready to follow your lead.
