Police are appealing for information after a blind woman had her bag stolen by a man in Padstow yesterday. About 5:10pm, Monday 21 April 2014, a 23-year-old woman got off a train at Padstow Railway Station and started walking home. The woman, who is legally blind and uses a cane, was walking south along Davies Road when a man approached from behind and stole her bag. The bag contained her phone, wallet and an online player/recording device used by visually impaired people to download talking newspapers and other audio files. The woman was not injured during the incident and returned home where she contacted police. Police from Bankstown Local Area Command are continuing investigations into the matter and conducted a search of the area as well as a canvas of nearby houses. They have been told a man was seen walking south along Davies Road and a few metres behind the woman shortly before the incident Detectives are keen to speak to the man who has been described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, 20-30 years old with short brown hair, a trimmed beard and wearing a grey hooded jumper and black pants. Anyone who witnessed the stealing or has information about the identity and whereabouts of the man is asked to contact Bankstown Police or Crime Stoppers.
