Police are currently investigating the suspects to check for links to ISIS, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, after confiscating flags in their possession. Two of the suspects were arrested in Ngawi, East Java, on August 8, the third, identified as Afif Abdul Majid, executive chief of a group called JamaahAnsharutTauhid (JAT). According to police the three men were wanted in connection with terrorist action in 2010 in Central Sulawesi and incidents in other locations. “In connection with the recent arrest of three terrorist suspects by Densus 88 we are now deepening our investigation (to see if they are connected with ISIS) after finding and confiscating ISIS flags in their possession,” National Police Command spokesman Senior Commissioner AgusRiyanto said on Monday. Afif Abdul Majid has already declared himself a supporter of ISIS along with another Islamic teacher identified as ABB. The other two suspects have made no such declaration but police are still investigating any possible connections. Meanwhile, in Bali, Governor Pastika has appealed to the community to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activity. “All parties must take anticipatory measures and be alert toward ISIS ideology and must not let it change the Unitary State of Indonesia (NKRI), which has so far been safeguarded by the country’s founders based on the 1945 Constitution,” Democrat Party faction member I WayanAdnyana said at a meeting of the regional legislative assembly on Monday. The faction also asked for a special allocation of funds for security in the revised budget for 2014, to support monitoring efforts. “Until now, we have not received any reports of ISIS development in Denpasar,” Denpasar police chief Senior Commissioner DjokoHariutomo said recently. He claimed that Indonesia will take a hard line on the ideology of ISIS, now IS (Islamic State). “It runs in opposition to the state ideology of “Pancasila” and the principle of unity in diversity under the Unitary State of Indonesia,” chief security minister, Djoko Suyanto, stated at a press conference following a limited cabinet meeting on August 4.
