Police are investigating after a junior rugby league player was allegedly assaulted by a spectator at a match at Coogee today (Sunday 18 August 2013). Police have been told a 12-year-old boy was playing a match on Coogee Oval about 12.30pm when a 17-year-old youth ran onto the pitch and allegedly punched him. The youth was apprehended by club officials and held till police arrived. The teen has been released into the custody of his parents pending further investigation tomorrow by officers from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command. The younger boy did not require medical attention after the alleged assault. Police would like to know if you have or know anyone who recorded the game. Police are keen to view footage of this incident which will assist in their investigation. Anyone with information about this incident should contact Maroubra Police.
