Police are reassuring residents in Northenden that a fire at a school is not suspicious. At about 9pm on Friday 31 October 2014, police were called to a fire at the Northenden Community School on Bazeley Road. Officers attended along with firefighters and quickly brought the fire under control. Police, crime scene investigators and firefighters reattended the scene today and have ruled there is no evidence of deliberate ignition. Inspector Luke Breakspear said: It is a sad time when any damage is caused to school premises and especially so when fire is involved. I would like to reassure the community that we take any reports of this nature seriously and will continue to do so. Im aware that there has been a recent fire in Northenden but as yet there is no evidence to suggest that these incidents are linked in any way. We are working closely with the fire investigators and school staff to offer support while dealing with this unfortunate accident. The damage is not irreparable but will cause disruption to the school. However, Im confident with the communitys support the school will be able to continue. I anticipate the school will be closed for a few days at least and the headteacher will ensure all parents are updated as to how this will affect the school in the short term. I would like to thank you all the Northenden community for their continued support.
