Police in Kisoro district is investigating circumstances under which a one-and-a-half-year old child is alleged to have been beaten by his mother and left with severe injuries which resulted to his death. Trouble started on Christmas day when Maniraguha Agnes commonly known as Nyirahaba suspected his husband HabyarImana Jackson to be plotting to marry another wife, which he denied. While speaking to our reporter, HabyarImana said they have always had misunderstandings on a number of issues including infidelity with UPDF soldiers camping in Kibaya, Nyarubuye sub county. He says such misunderstandings could be solved by authorities, but Nyirahaba could still disobey their orders until Friday 2nd January when she decided to divorce, taking all the house property and burnt the rest. HabyarImana added that on Sunday 4th January, Nyirahaba was ordered by Sub County authorities to return the property which she had taken, but on return, she left most of the property which forced her husband to chase her back. HabyarImana says that when his wife went back, she severely beat their child, saying it would be hard for her to get men while with the child. The kabagala village LC 1 Chairperson Mr. Ngoboka James says circumstances under which the innocent child died are mysterious since he did not receive any report of domestic violence from the couple. He says police has stepped into the matter and hopes the perpetrator will be brought to book. Meanwhile, Maniraguha was evacuated from the area to prevent mob justice that could rise from the angry residents who had camped for the burial arrangements at Kabagala village, Nyarubuye Sub County in Kisoro district.
