Police nab 320 Boko Haram suspects in Rivers January 28, 2014 PORT HAR-COURT—No fewer than 320 persons, suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect, were allegedly arrested, yesterday, by the Rivers State Police Command. It was gathered that they were in 20 buses when they were arrested at the boundary between Rivers and Imo states. They were allegedly coming from Jigawa State when they were apprehended. Details of the development were hazy, but at press time they were being quizzed by the Police at the state headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department. It was gathered from a security source that after searching them for arms, the Police later asked them to make statements. “They searched each of them. And also searched the buses they came in, after which the Police asked them to write statements,” a source said. When contacted for comment, the state Police Commissioner, Mr Joseph Mbu, said the state Police command would not speak on the issue until investigation was concluded. “It is a top security issue. I don’t know who gave you the information and I will not want to ask. But there can be no comment for now from the state Police Command until we finish investigation. I will make no comment,” he said. Some persons, who spoke in Hausa, had formed groups in front of the state CID’s office discussing the development. They gave the name of the driver, who led the other vehicles as Bala Nato Dambam, adding that those arrested were in Port Harcourt for business. “They sell carrots and do cobbling jobs in Port Harcourt. They are not Boko Haram members,” one of them said.#J
