Police officers are people, and people have their prejudices. - TopicsExpress

Police officers are people, and people have their prejudices. When people meet as friends, prejudices can usually be overcome with familiarity. Concerning the relationship between police officers and the communities they are supposed to be serving, every person in the community has become a potential threat in the eyes of police. This is a situation that turns prejudice into panic. As a matter of fact, blacks suffer the brunt and majority of police brutality in high-density population areas, while in lower-density areas it is the mentally ill or handicapped, but these are only the groups at the highest risk for institutionalized violence and democide. This situation can only have negative effects for society as a whole. While I am generally not likely to suffer direct victimization, discrimination, persecution or physical harm because of my skin color, it still hurts me to live in a country (or a world) where this happens. I may be white, but I dont benefit from this. Nobody benefits, and some people suffer and die from it. Police should not be enemies of the people, they should be friends of the people. Police officers ARE people.
