Police uses force to ‘disperse’ Geelani’s rally in Sopore SRINAGAR As thousands of people started marching from Sopore to Doabgah, police used rear smoke shells and batons to disperse the people raising pro-freedom slogans, reports said. The locals alleged that police also used aerial firing against the people. They added that soon after Syed Ali Geelani completed his speech to thousands of people and started marching towards Doabgah to condole the family members of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru, police stormed the rally by batons, tear gas shells and alleged aerial firing. “Geelani was on a Tatamobile vehicle waving to his supporters who had assembled in large numbers and CRPF personnel used tear smoke shells against the people who were shouting anti-India slogans,” an eyewitness said. When asked about Geelani, he said, “we are running for safety and do not know about him.” Imtyaz Hyder, one of the Tehreek-e-Hurri yat leaders accompanying Geelani to Sopore informed KL that people managed to secure Geelani from the spot and he was safe. No police official was available for comment immediately.
