Police week celebrations by Chandigarh police begin from November 11 Chandigarh Police has been playing a key role in keeping the city beautiful-Chandigarh, a role model city as was dreamt by its planner Le-Corbusier. The main aim of celebrating this week was to solicit public cooperation and to redress the grievances of the general public, to bring improvement in the Police working and also to apprise people about the working of Police Force. Most importantly, to bridge the gap between Police and public, so that both can work in coordination to make the city more beautiful and crime free. Chandigarh Police was raised after the declaration of Chandigarh as Union territory on 1st November, 1966. The first Chief of Chandigarh Police was Sh. V.K. Kalia SSP. The post of IGP was created in 1981 and 15 Inspector Generals of Police have been appointed till date. Presently, Sh. R. P. Upadhyay, IPS is the Inspector General of Police. SSP Chandigarh (for maintaining Law & Order), SSP/Operation & training (for training and special operation), SSP/Headquarters and SSP Traffic and Security (for maintaining Traffic & Security arrangements in the city) are working under Deputy Inspector General of Police. Once again, Chandigarh Police is celebrating “Chandigarh Police Week-2013” in the month of November, which has become an annual feature. Chandigarh Police Week would be organized from 11th to 15th November, 2013. The basic objective of the week is to build a close bonding with the members of the public and to form stronger partnerships between Police and the communities they serve. The said week is being organized to promote respect for law, build public interest in and support for the Police, thus reducing the gap between the Police and public. During the Chandigarh Police Week, celebrations will definitely bring community, people, citizen forums, students closer to Police to build up the desired trust and rapport as required. Chandigarh Police has been continuously striving to keep the city safe & secure. Its various units like District Police, Operation Cell, Security Wing, Traffic Police keep working round the clock to provide best policing services to the citizens. To mark this occasion, Chandigarh Police will be organizing various activities/functions for strengthening the image of Chandigarh Police during the Police Week. The chief guest will be Sh. R. P. Upadhyay, IPS, IGP, Chandigarh. At 11:30 AM, Painting Competition at Plaza Sector 17, Chandigarh. The Chief Guest of the function will be Sh. V. K. Singh, IAS, Finance Secretary, Chandigarh. At 6:00 PM, Musical Evening for Senior Citizens and Police Families at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, Chandigarh. The Chief Guest of the function will be Sh. K. K. Sharma, IAS , Advisor to Hon’ble Administrator, Chandigarh. 12/11/2013 At 9:00 AM, Rally on women safety at Sukhna Lake, Sh. Satya Gopal, IAS, Chariman Housing Board will be Chief Guest. At 12:00 PM, Rally for traffic awareness from Punjab University to Sector 17, 9, 21, Chandigarh. Sh. Anil Kumar, IAS, Home Secretary, UT Chandigarh will flag off the rally. At 12:30 PM, Play on Women Safety/ Women related issues at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College for Girls, Sector 26, Chandigarh. The Chief Guest of the function will be Sh.
