Political Transition(2001)........ The Corrupted Dagbon! Dagbon was known for its reverence for the elderly, responsible and hardworking youth, togetherness, loving and its unmatched hospitality. Sadly, the events of 2002 redefined all the positive attributes of Dagbon for the worse. A people that once revered the elderly first lost it on Abudu and Andani as it determined which elder deserves respect from a certain youth group and vice versa. The once responsible and hardworking youth lost it attributes on the altar of politics. Hitherto to 2002, the youth visited the elderly in society for wisdom and guidance. Today, their visits are determined by who gives money. Political appointees and MPs have become the target of their visits placing before them all kinds of lazy laced demands. Our Dagbon elders, successful academics and business professionals who have made it in life are hardly visited by the contemporary youth to at least share in their experiences and take a cue from it. They simply conclude such people wont offer them money esp with such lazy laced demands. They have transferred all sorts of power in Dagbon to the politicians who in themselves sometimes needs the wisdom and guidance of our people. Sadly, even some of our elders in the religious and traditional sphere have metormophosized to make such demands without regard for the sanctity and morality of their class. Dagbon is being corrupted! Ask yourselves these; how often do you call your dad or mum, when was the last time you visited ur uncles or aunts? What about your grannies or that elderly person with wisdom in your area? You simply assume you have little to learn from them and so they are not worth your time but even the little is valuable. The few cases you checked on them is simply to say hi and with no intention of seeking their opinion on something. Truth be told, we are all guilty of this charge and the quicker we purge ourselves the better for us. Are you therefore surprise that respect for the elderly has eluded us as a people in Dagbon? Our virtues have been sacrificed and our society is running fast in to Abyss? DAGBON MUST RISE AGAIN!
