I just wanted to share a tip I received from the national archives. If youre looking for the naturalization papers on an ancestor that you found in the New England naturalization Index- you can take the state, then county/court, volume and page number listed and use the following steps to find the original document. The index will how up in a search on the familysearch website, from there you have to do a little work to find the originals. I found the papers on my 4th great grandfather William LaRose that came from Canada, fought in the Civil War for the union, then became naturalized after the war. --- Dear Sir: the New England Petitions for Naturalization, 1790-1906 are free and available online at familysearch.org 1. At the top of the FamilySearch homepage, select “Search.” 2. At the bottom of the “Discover Your Family History” page, click on “Browse All Published Collection” 3. On the left side, in the box under “Filter by Collection Name” , type in New England 4. Choose “New England, Petitions for Naturalization, 1787-1931.” 5. Select “Browse through [number] images,” found under the heading “View Images in this Collection.” 6. Select the state in which the person was naturalized. 7. Choose the County or Federal Court in which the person was naturalized. 8. Choose one of the options for “Record Type, Date, Volume/Page.” 9. Browse through the images in this volume using the gray arrows at the top of the computer screen. Please note that image numbers do not correspond with the petition page numbers.
