Political expedience vs Political morality. The prospects for the PF going for the convention to settle for someone who will carry the leadership mantle of the party is inevitable and this constitutes political morality. This process is procedural because it will require the assembling of provincial leadership to come up with a successor to President Sata. The process also requires enough money to convene a mammoth undertaking such as convention. The other alternative will be for the Central Committee to choose the person to field as a presidential aspirant for elections slated for January. This procedure is not only cheap but offers the would be PF presidential candidate to convince the masses why PF should be given a fresh mandate. But one thing has emerged from the rumpus currently going on in the ruling party. The simmering hatred and mistrust among party members has been laid bare for all to see. The intra-party squabbles among members of the top brace of the party can signal or herald the looming down fall of the once buoyant political party. One thing is clear, though. If the constitution was rewritten to include the running mate clause, the current upheavals in the PF could have been avoided. The elected vice president could have taken over from Sata and a presidential election with its concomitant astronomical costs could have been averted. Therefore, whichever party will emerge victorious should set about to amend contentious clauses in the constitution with surgical precision! PF as a political party will degenerate into a moribund state if they dont settle their differences soon. These confusions have the potential to scare away their sympathizers who may vote otherwise. Watch out for part 2 of my analysis.
