Political prisoner and former Black Panther Mumia Abu-Jamal explains that the music was spawned by young people whom felt that they are at best tolerated in schools, feared on the streets, and almost inevitably destined for the hell holes of prison. They grew up hungry, hated and unloved. And this is the psychic fuel that seems to generate the anger that seems endemic in much of the music and poetry. This anger would shine through on tracks such as Straight Outta Compton by N.W.A., where rapper Ice Cube explains that hes From the gang called Niggaz With Attitudes and When Im called off, I got a sawed off, squeeze the trigger, and bodies are hauled off!
