Polling has begun for the fifth and final phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand amidst tight security. In Jammu and Kashmir, 213 candidates including five ministers of the Omar Abdullah government and a number of former MPs and MLAs are in the fray. Voting, which started at 8 AM, will end at 4 PM. Our correspondent reports that Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar chaired a high-level security meeting of the police, para-military and intelligence agencies in Jammu yesterday. Polling is taking place in 20 Assembly segments for the border district of Jammu, Kathua and Rajouri. Election Commission has set up 2,366 polling stations. Five sitting ministers, several former ministers, sitting and ex- Legislative Members and and bigwigs of various political parties were in the fray for the high profile 20 constituencies.
