Pontypool residents, heres a run down of what weve been doing in your area.... There have been several reports of sheds being broken into and items stolen in the Wainfelin area. Please make sure that your sheds are secured with a good quality lock and any valuable items like mountain bikes and electrical equipment is kept in a secure area away from the shed. Ladders should be placed in brackets fixed to a wall and security lights and alarms fitted if possible. It’s a good idea to cut back any dense foliage so that would-be thieves can be seen from your house and those nearby. We are currently running Operation Cassowary, targeting off-road bikers in the Pontypool area. If you have an off-road bike, please remember that it is illegal to ride your bikes on the road without adequate tax, insurance and MOT and also on any of the mountainsides around Pontypool. Police officers will be issuing legal warnings to anyone found riding illegally, which may result in them having their bikes confiscated. We have had several reports of dogs running loose in the past few weeks. Torfaen County Borough Council’s Dog Warden has been informed and will be visiting the owners of the dogs involved. It is the responsibility of dog owners to keep their pets under control at all times, they should not be allowed to roam the streets unsupervised. If you have a dog please ensure that it is kept on a lead when out in public and that they are not able to escape from your property and cause harm to other animals and people. As summer approaches we have had a couple of reports about young people starting fires, particularly in Pontypool Park near the grandstand. During summer the grass inevitably dries out and becomes an easy conductor for fires to spread and cause more damage. We have also had fires started on the mountain sides around Pontypool which have devastated areas of beauty, property and rare wildlife. The result of a moment’s fun is that Emergency Services are called out to deal with the fire and there could be a very real danger to people and property. We ask that everyone remains vigilant and reports anything suspicious. We’re regularly on patrol in the Park and will be dealing with anti-social behaviour and any other issues arising. Residents are complaining that young people are playing football late at night in the cage adjacent to Trevethin Workingmen’s Club. Whilst we appreciate that the cage is designed for football games we ask that consideration is given to local residents who cannot sleep because of the noise caused by the football hitting the cage sides. If you would like to chat to us about any issues, please go to gwent.police.uk and click on My Area to find the dates of our latest surgeries.
