Poor John Howard he claims Julia Gillard had no authority after getting rid of a P M who could not do the job. What a load of rubbish. PM gets her authority from the party room not from the public. Australia does not vote for their Prime Minister it votes for their local member who forms a government the leader as chosen by them is the Prime Minister . I guess John has been out of the spot light for too long. Goodbye John you stuffed it and it is time to leave the stage. Clearly very few people understand how politics actually works and would rather stake their opinions based on pre-conceived ideas and what they hear in the media. Julia Gillard She was elected leader by the caucus - the party.Abbott was elected the same way over Turnbull. Keating over Hawke. As leader of the ALP she then went to an election. Why does everyone say we did not vote her in ? She formed a minority government based on the preference system. This is how the Westminster system works. Had Tony Abbott negotiated successfully with the independents and Greens (which he desperately tried to do), he would have been PM. Would everyone have hysterically declared him an illegitimate PM ? I somehow doubt it. Shame so few understand facts.
