Port Adelaide completes its V-line guernsey range with new summer jumper PORT ADELAIDE is going teal this summer. The latest variation of the Power’s popular V-line jumper — which is currently either predominantly black or white in AFL premiership games — has emerged with a teal base for the club’s pre-season guernsey. Originally designed as a one-off jumper for the 2009 season by schoolgirl Lucy Burford, the V-line series has been worn by Port Adelaide as the club’s official AFL guernsey since 2010. It is the club’s most strip since it was forced to abandon the traditional black-and-white picket-fence guernsey on joining the national league in 1997. The teal jumper will be worn in the NAB Challenge series that begins for the Power against West Coast at The Parade on March 8. Port Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas told The Advertiser the Power was taking advantage of its exclusive hold on teal. “Teal is unique to our club and we feel it is a great fit for the pre-season competition in the summer when the conditions are invariably warmer — and not conducive to wearing black,†Thomas said. “The teal jumper will be used only as a pre-season guernsey and we will always maintain our predominantly black guernsey as our home strip. “The beauty of our three jumpers is that they are all to a consistent design — with the ‘V’ across the front. We know our fans love this design.†Power defender Tom Jonas paraded the first issue of the teal jumpers in an exclusive photoshoot for The Advertiser at Alberton yesterday. He approved the new look for the summer. “From a players’ perspective, it will provide a strong contrast on the field,†Jonas said. “It certainly still feels like a traditional football guernsey. “As players, we obviously love the all-black jumper as our home guernsey. But we are looking forward to wearing this new strip in the pre-season.†Port Adelaide will seek to advance its merchandise revenue — which were strong this season — by putting the pre-season teal jumper on sale. The first batch for fans will be available at the Power Megastore at Alberton and on the club’s website from this morning. Port Adelaide’s official AFL colours are black, white, teal and silver. Moves to produce a silver jumper that is striking on the field and television remains a challenge at Alberton.
