Port-a-Cool, Texas World Dirt Track Championships @ Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track, 3/7-8/14 By J M Hallas Fort Worth, TX.,(March 8th, 2014) After a successful night of racing for 15 total drivers who locked themselves into one of the Modified or Limited Modified class A-mains, those not so lucky were relegated to fighting for the final starting spots and their chance to grab the prize money, trophy and cowboy hat at the end of the night. Sean Jones in the Modifieds and Dennie Gieber in the Limited Modifieds were winners in the 15-lap qualifiers, respectively. Modifieds and Limited Modifieds ran a series of B-Qualifiers, taking 3 or 4 from each to the nights features, one Last Chance Qualifier taking only the top two, plus the two pre-registered provisionals from a blind draw. The SUPR Late Models had a full program scheduled of heats, 2 B-mains and their own Texas World Dirt Track Championship event. 32 Late Models from 6 states entered the 4/10 mile, semi-banked, dirt arena looking for the prestigious win and $3,500 pay day. Bagley Bests Brown for SUPR Sweep North Texas hot-shoe, Morgan Bagley(Marshall) took home the honors winning the 40-lap SUPR Late Model A-main and heat race. Bagley took the top spot from multi-time series champ, Rob Litton, but gave up the spot temporarily to Chris Brown. After a mid-race restart, Bagley sailed it around the top, nearly getting squeezed by Brown, but securing the top spot. From there Bagley kept the power down slicing through lapped traffic as though Brown was still on his tail, despite having a full straightaway advantage. At the drop of the green on the 22-car SUPR Late Model feature, Litton got out front from the outside front row chased by Bagley, Jeff Chandler, Chris Brown and Jon Mitchell. Brown quickly got past Chandler for third and was nearly in the right spot after Litton and Bagley made contact in turn 4. Bagley came out with the lead, with Brown hot on his heels. Brown was pressuring Bagley as Ryan Gustin took fifth from Mitchell. Brown used lapped traffic to get past Bagley for the top spot on lap 12, with Gustin getting third from Litton. As the race came to the crossed flags it was Brown, Bagley and Gustin with Chandler and Mitchell door to door for fifth. Bagley got a good run on the top going three wide in traffic with Brown, until yellow waved for Patrick Daniel stopped in turn 2. On the ensuing restart Bagley drove it in hard around the top getting by Brown, but Tommy Weder jr. had spun for a quick yellow. On the next restart, Bagley again sailed it high with Brown trying to come off the bottom for the block. It was Bagley, after nearly getting squeezed into the wall, retaking the point on lap 25. Gustin drove in to follow Bagleys tire tracks and took second from Brown briefly before Brown regained momentum. Behind the lead trio, Mitchell got fourth from Chandler who gave up fifth Litton a lap later. Rodney Sanders made a late race charge into the top five as the laps wound down. Out front Bagley in the Waymon McMillan owned, P&W Sales, gottarace, Keyser Manufacturing, MSI, Integra Shocks, P&W Iron Works, Clements Race Engines, Rocket Chassis was still hammer down cutting through traffic on his way to the win. This is a big prestigious event here, said Bagley. Being that Im from Texas and the race is here in Texas. Its nice to come here and be able do this. Ive raced Modifieds here before I got the Late Model and weve come here every year and had some decent runs, but made some mistakes or had luck not go our way. It seemed like we were snake bit. We jumped out there early and got caught in traffic using the wrong line and Chris(Brown) got by. His decision was better than mine. Both our cars seemed pretty good and just followed him for a while hoping hed make a mistake if we got back in traffic. When I was behind him I looked around for a better line. It was a little rough up near the top and I found it was smoother a bit higher. It was treacherous up there but it worked to our advantage and we got the W tonight. I just had to move around and search for the line to my advantage. That last restart went our way, but the caution came out again and I didnt think that would happen again. Things went our way tonight and cant thank my crew enough. We tore up the car pretty bad in Thursday practice. They took it back home and thrashed on it with little to no sleep. Im happy to get the win for them and all my sponsors. I learned from some of the best drivers that if you try to slow down thats when you get yourself in trouble. You have to drive these cars hard so you dont start missing your marks and making mistakes. If you mess up one corner and try to make it up in the next these guys will be right on you.
