Port of Davao City, Philippines Friday, September 12 7:04 AM I well remember thirteen years ago being right here where Juli and I are today. It was a day that changed all our lives forever and witnessing its unfolding hour upon hour from this overseas vantage point, perhaps gave a perspective that was somewhat different, had we been at home in the States. For one thing, the news accounts werent as up-to-date as with many of you there and things that were happening left us with too many questions and not enough answers. But then again, I suppose it was that way with all of us no matter where we were at the time. The American expat community here, like everywhere else in the world, Im sure, was nervous. And we spent those hours and days that followed with particular vigilance and great sorrow...but at the same time, redoubled determination for gospel work. So much has changed since then. But one thing that hasnt changed is our continual prayers for grace and mercy and protection as we go on with life abroad. Our world is dangerous because it is a world that needs Christ and in so many ways, resists every attempt to share Him. Deeds of love and mercy are so often the means by which greatest strides forward are made and honestly speaking, sometimes it takes special grace to keep loving those who show no love in return and to keep doing for them, things they cannot do for themselves and realize there is seldom appreciation for what has been done. But the Good Lord must have felt the same way...and He knew the hearts of men best. So, we carry on. I am praying for my country at this time. And I am praying as well for those who stand ready to defend her and for her leaders who need more wisdom. And I am praying for all who proclaim the life-giving gospel of Christ, wherever they are in our world. Like me, they live their faith in real time. God bless you all. I am praying for you!
