Position Announcement: PostDoctoral Scholar in Game Studies at USC: The University of Southern California’s Pullias Center for Higher Education is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to work on a project that explores the role of games and social media on under-represented students’ college trajectories. The postdoctoral scholar will collaborate with faculty, graduate students and practitioners on a First in the World Grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the grant, we are interested in reviewing applications from social science scholars from a wide range of fields including: education, game studies, communications, public policy, critical studies, psychology, sociology and business. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with a deep understanding of game studies, informal learning through social networks and/or issues pertaining to the digital/participation divide. We also value candidates who bring an independent program of research, characterized by (quantitative or qualitative) methodological sophistication. POSITION SUMMARY The postdoctoral scholar will assist Principal Investigators in conducting research for the FITW grant. The Mission:Admission project leverages technology to dramatically change the way students from under-served communities access information about college and financial aid, and become motivated to learn about and apply for college admission and financial aid. Project activities will involve extensive collaboration with researchers, game designers, practitioners and high school students. The study research design includes a random control trial, case studies, and extensive surveys; the evaluation plan is designed to meet the standards of the What Works Clearinghouse group design standards without reservations. Findings will be relevant for all states and will inform implementation of the program at the national level. https://jobs.usc.edu/postings/33709
