Positive legionella test deemed low risk The Rhoda Read maternity - TopicsExpress

Positive legionella test deemed low risk The Rhoda Read maternity unit in Morrinsville is closed to new birthing admissions following a positive test indicating the presence of #Legionella in a showerhead at the facility. Waikato District Health Board (DHB) took immediate action to minimise any risks to patients and staff within the facility after the results became known. Women rarely use the shower as it is some distance from the maternity rooms. Contractors removed and disinfected all showerheads at the birthing unit and selected showerheads in the adjacent continuing care facility on the advice of the Medical Officer of Health and Infection Control staff despite previous negative results. Waikato DHB will undertake retests in all maternity unit showerheads including the one that returned a positive test and send them to Environmental Science & Research (ESR). Results will not be known for 10 to 12 days. Read more - bit.ly/14FWnVF
