Positive things! Ive gotten a bug, a long understated interest, that Ive decided to pursue. I am going to purchase a braille slate and enroll in a course, Im looking at a few, for sighted people (usually aimed at family/friends, educators, caregivers) to learn how to write in braille. This came about in wanting to prepare a package for my friend without knowing how to include a personalized message they could read. I drooled over braille typewriters online (soooo expensive, but a worthy investment for community groups....like a union I know, *cough, cough*) and then remembered slates, much more affordable and apparently easier to start learning with. Im very stoked. And definitely still want to learn ASL (American Sign Language) too. And Spanish, French, Italian, Esperanto, Portuguese. I want spaces for everyone and theres something about communicating with someone in their own language/way/context that is intriguing and makes for better connections I think. I dont want to be ignorant. And I refuse to believe that I cant learn without affording a degree program.
