Possible second run of auditions coming up for Guilford 375th on February 8th. Here are more details on the pronject: Town of Guilford 375th Committee is looking for actors/living history interpreters for their May 31st Civil War commemorative event. 5 men and 1 woman are needed. The short (10 to 15 minutes) vignettes will be scheduled throughout the day 11:00am-5:00pm, Saturday May 31st, 2014, on and around the town green in Guilford CT. Actors will be required to participate (be visible) prior to and after their scheduled vignettes, carrying with them information provided to them on the details of the Guilford resident (character) they portray, to share with the public/visitors. Specific time commitment on that Saturday will be determined once vignette schedules are set. Rehearsals will begin in late April/early May, and will be scheduled based on actor availability. Late afternoon into evenings as well as weekends are possible rehearsal times. Actors will need to be available evenings during the week of Monday May 26th for tech and dress rehearsals through to the event on Saturday May 31st. This important event commemorates the lives of residents of Guilford CT during the Civil War. The scripted vignettes will be memorized, and are based on actual letters written to and by the individuals: Character breakdown: Town Crier Age range 25-60 Outgoing personality, will announce presentations, direct visitors to see timed presentations throughout the day. Involved in some of the dramatic vignettes, and will aid in giving an over-all feeling of the 1860s time period. Will be given historical information to share with the public in an informal, improvisational way. Comfort with improv techniques a plus. Uriah Parmalee Age range 20-25 Left Yale to enlist in the Calvary Promoted to Captain 1st Cavalry Union Army Died in 1865 Raphael Ward Benton Age range 35-45 Was a farmer who enlisted as a Private in the 14th CT Infantry Died from wounds after the battle of Antietam Left a wife and three sons. Toby Trout African American, Age range 30-40 Was a private in the U.S.Colored Troops Died from battle wounds in 1864 William B. Norton Age range 20-30 Was a farmer who enlisted as Private in Artillery Survived the war, went on to marry. Harriet Hawley Age range 30-40 First cousin of Harriet Beecher Stowe, Henry Ward Beecher and Uriah Parmalee (see above). She and her husband were ardent abolitionists. She suffered from various health issues. During the war, she went south to help teach literacy to formerly enslaved people, and was a war correspondent to the Hartford Evening Press. Also worked in Army hospital.
