Post From Sheriff Smith, in response to a story the Call 7 Investigative reporters ran questioning the response times to the very tragic Poudre River double drowning of Christopher Alania and Jose Terrel on May 26th. Unfortunately their original story was run without the full facts of the situation, without reaching out to our agency for any verification, and little understanding of how all mutual aid agencies, both volunteer organizations and others, work in Larimer County. They neglected to report that dive rescue and emergency services were dispatched within 2 minutes and an ambulance was on scene within 3 minutes of the initial call. They instead chose to highlight a lapse in backup calls for assistance from other agencies and data entry issues. Hopefully after the extensive information we presented they have a full understanding of the actual timeline of events from that very sad day on the river.
