Post Mortem on Yesterdays Storm And Weather For Today Yesterdays storm lived up to its billing rain wise, but not wind wise in the mid-valley. Yesterdays high temperature was 59-degrees. From Wednesday afternoon through 5:00 a.m. this morning, this Pineapple Express stream of moisture dumped 3-point-9 inches of rain at the Yuba County Airport. Peak gusts only reached 36 to 38 miles per hour at the Yuba County Airport and that was all yesterday morning. Our seasonal total stands at 10.60 inches at the Yuba County Airport...nearly five-inches above normal and more than eight inches more than last year! Elsewhere...rain totals for the 24 hours ending at 5:00 this morning were just over 4-inches in Grass Valley and 5-inches at LaPorte. The highest rain total came at Brandy Creek in Shasta County, which received 11-inches...and that fed into Lake Shasta. Wind wise, peak foothill and Sierra gusts ranged from 45 to a whopping 140-miles-per-hour in the upper passes of the Sierras! Today...overnights steady light rain has turned to scattered showers this morning...but expect more frequent showers mid-afternoon, with a chance for a thunderstorm. Todays high will be 55. Winds today will be light and southerly. Todays rainfall should be less than a quarter-inch, except in thunderstorm affected areas. Diminishing showers tonight...with areas of fog Saturday morning. Low tonight...42. Partly cloudy Saturday and Sunday..with a chance of showers Monday and Tuesday. Highs both days of 55-degrees. This mornings snow level is about 4000 feet...with an additional five to 10 inches of snow expected above 5000 feet this morning.
