Post this for me. PRESIDENTIAL VISIT TO ADO EKITI FOR ABUAD CONVOCATION;AN ASSAULT ON THE SENSIBILITY OF ALL NIGERIA STUDENT~By Yakubu Temitope Tajudeen I heard the President of Nigeria, the husband to a Permanent Secretary in Bayelsa State, the Visitor to all Federal Institutions, the number one citizen in Nigeria,GCON,President Dr Ebele Azikwe Goodluck Jonathan will be coming to Ado Ekiti,South West,Nigeria for the Convocation of Afe Babalola University(ABUAD),a private University whereas Public Institutions are on strike and will later branch at Federal Polytechnic,Ado Ekiti to lay a foundation of a Petroleum Complex that will be completed in 2023(Federal govt project now,it will take up to 10years for its completion). I wish to congratuate the Management of Federal Polytechnic,Ado Ekiti, the entire Student especially the SUG President, atleast he will put it in the incentive as an achievement of his administration.Anyway am not here to criticise the Executive, neither here to criticise the Student Senatorial Council(SSC) who just had their share of #80,000 as gain from Incentive.Mr Senate President,I heard some aggrieved members who you refused to give their share are not happy with you,so try and give them sir.Atleast we Nigeria Student now know who sold our right of quality incentive for #80,000.We now know who we will curse as soon as we get our Incentive. Like I said,am here to pen my though on the Presidential presence at a private Institution Convocation whereas Public Universities and Polytechnics remain closed under his watch.I think it is height of insensitivity on the part of the Presidency. If Mr President and his Education Minister are perceptive enough, they ought to know that coming for a Convocation of a private University all the way from Abuja, wasting public fund to embark on such jamboree when Public institutions are on strike is an assault on the sensibility on all Nigeria Students whose parent cant afford Private Institution. JOHN F. KENNEDY says, upon the the education of the people of a country, the fate of the country depends. Most Public Higher Institutions in Nigeria have no classrooms, lecture theatre and desks for students to learn like their Private Courterpart. If ABUAD Lecturers are on strike now due to unpaid salary, will the President and his shameless Minister of Education be coming to ABUAD convocation talkless of branching at FEDPOLAD to lay a foundation of a project to be completed in the next 10years. I think we NIGERIA YOUTHS/STUDENTS have been carried away by ineptitude and misplacement of priorities and we must forthwith wake up to reclaim what is rightly ours.We must realize that we are also stakeholders in the business of this country. For now,I think we are carried away by little and unnecessary things. Great Nigerian students, there is one very powerful fact that many of us don’t seem to give much cognizance; that fact is that all government in Nigerian history were brought to power by young people of between 15 and 35 which very much captures the demography of students but we have coyed away from power and have allowed gerontocrates who hardly understand our problem and are every now and again shuttling between here and America/Europe for medical checkups, registering their wards in Private Universities. Young Nigerians have played powerfully at the round table of political power over the last 60 years. We youths have acted as coup plotters to seize power, the major actors of the civil war were youths whose blood yearned for the succor of power. The power of the youth votes have either made or marred too many a political ambition, but I am pained at the sad reality, that we do not even know what we want today. Even when we know our right,it has been very difficult for us to assert same. Is it so hard for us to realize that on our hand lies the tool for political success and genuine transformation? We have been carried away by ineptitude and misplacement of priorities, and we must forthwith wake up to reclaim what is rightly ours.
