#PostTraumaGriefCounsellingandTalks Sidra Iqbal Dear all, thank you for reaching out with all the support and guidance for the post-trauma grief counselling & emotional rehab I suggested for the survivors and families of the #PeshawarMassacre. We have been closely evaluating the ground needs and reality. Currently the schools are off, students are scattered and rebuilding of the particular school will initiate soon. The counselling and eventual therapy program must be sustainable and medium- to-long term. It can not be 2 or 3 day visit alone. As shared with most of you, we have worked towards an institutional buy-in from the Army Public School and have been advised to initiate the program post winters break. We are relying on the family support network for the interim period. Post it, we will Inshallah equip the school faculty with toolkits and training to continue support and monitoring. Media coverage teams are requested to be very empathetic too, asking the students to repeat and recall the days unfolding can be damaging. (TAKE ACTION) How you can get involved and help: The secondary affectee subset is also equally important. This includes all the students who experienced the massacre via media. Academics and all those who work with young students are requested to encourage them to express how they feel and help them manage the anxiety, pain and anger. We are currently arranging for school talks in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad (post winter break) for this purpose. 1st meeting to design is on Saturday 28 (Counsellors, therapists, experts and volunteers please comment here to confirm attendance).
