(Posted 8:46 AM EST 22AUG14) While the Flash Flood Warning issued - TopicsExpress

(Posted 8:46 AM EST 22AUG14) While the Flash Flood Warning issued for portions of Wirt, Wood, Ritchie and Pleasants counties earlier this morning has expired, the entire Mid-Ohio Valley remains under a Flash Flood Watch till 1:00 AM 23AUG14. A line of wet weather is stretched from just south of Columbus, OH all the way back through Ohio, Indiana and Illinois into Iowa, making its way towards WV. As of now, the system seems to be tracking slightly to the south of the MOV targeting the southern coal fields of WV. However, NWS is still forecasting a wet day ahead for us. Rain is in the forecast through Sunday, with our first really good chance of sunshine coming Monday. Stay alert to changing conditions through the day. Pack an umbrella just in case! Some storms could produce heavy rainfall/downpours, increasing the hydroplaning threat. We experienced a multi-vehicle accident with injuries yesterday in Wirt due to hydroplaning, so please, slow your travel and be aware of the potential during moderate to heavy rain. Even small amounts of ponded or flowing water can cause a vehicle to lose traction. So slow down, increase your breaking distance between yourself and vehicles in front of you, and practice good defensive driving techniques. MOV forecast from NWS Charleston: Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 2pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 3am, then a slight chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Saturday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 9am. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Saturday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers between 11pm and 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Calm wind.
