Potential Part Time Job Opportunity for UCF Students Professor - TopicsExpress

Potential Part Time Job Opportunity for UCF Students Professor Haitham Al-Deek, Ph.D., P.E., in the Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering Department at the University of Central Florida (UCF), and his research team are anticipating a new research project starting in summer 2014. News about the project award will be released in the near future. In preparation for this potential project, we are trying to recruit talented UCF students to work on survey data collection. UCF students do not have to be engineering majors to work on this project; any UCF student can work on this project. Both undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to work on this project. However, it is required that potential recruits have strong personal communication skills. For this potential research project, UCF students will be needed to conduct and collect results for traveler and truck driver surveys at a selected number of the Florida Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) service plazas and Interstate rest areas. This survey deals with the impact and benefits of certain traffic information dissemination methods and technologies on the FTE toll road network and the Florida Interstate Highway System. Students will be expected to survey truck drivers as well as regular commuters and tourists visiting Florida. Students will be provided with the survey questions that will be prepared and designed by Professor Al-Deek and his research team. We are currently looking into the best survey distribution method, so the final method will be determined later on. One possible method is that the survey will be programmed on iPADs which will be given to the students to record answers; this provides for easy bunching of survey answers. Recruited students will go through training before they are sent to the service plazas and/or rest areas to conduct the survey. This project is expected to start soon this summer but the field surveys may not start until late summer 2014 and may extend through early spring 2015 semester (but it may be shorter or longer as this will be determined later on). This job will require travel; carpooling will be needed to save on travel cost and stay within the limited project travel budget. Students will need to travel to three service plazas along the FTE mainline and two rest areas along I-95 and I-75. The FTE service plazas are located at Okahumpka, Turkey Lake, and Canoe Creek; while the rest areas are located on I-95 in St. Lucie and on I-75 in Charlotte . The number of trips to each service plaza and/or rest area will be determined later on. Pay rate ranges from $10-$15 per hour depending on experience and personal communication skills. Also, student travelers will be reimbursed for mileage and tolls. If overnight stay is needed, the project will pay for lodging (hotel stay) and per diem (meals) in addition to rental car costs if rental car is needed. All travel reimbursement will be according to Florida travel statutes. More details about this project can be provided by Professor Al-Deek. If you are interested in applying for this job opportunity or have any further questions regarding this opportunity, please contact Professor Al-Deek at [email protected] as soon as possible. This is a competitive but equal opportunity. To be considered for this position, you need to send the following to Professor Al-Deek: 1) Updated resume. 2) Degree audit showing grades in all courses taken at UCF and elsewhere. 3) Names of at least three references and their contact numbers, and indicate the nature of your relationship with each reference. 4) Indicate your availability to work during the period from August 2014 through July 2015. You do not need to be available for this entire time but clarify what periods of time you are available to work on this project. Thank you for your interest in aiding this important research.
