Potential of wintery precipitation for the Fort Hood area - TopicsExpress

Potential of wintery precipitation for the Fort Hood area Wednesday evening (New Years Eve) through at least noon Thursday (New Years Day). SYNOPSIS: Cold Arctic air will move into the area Monday evening and Tuesday followed by an upper-level low-pressure system that will spread light rain across the Fort Hood area beginning Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will fall below freezing Wednesday evening, so any precipitation that falls will likely freeze on exposed surfaces. A wintery mix of sleet and freezing rain is possible through noon Thursday until the temperature rise above freezing. MAIN IMPACT: At this time only light accumulation is expected, less than a tenth of an inch, but special attention must be given to bridges and overpasses. Even a glaze of ice can cause dangerous driving conditions. Travelers should pay close attention to local weather sources (i.e., NWS and news media) and TxDOT website (drivetexas.org) during this holiday period. There are no weather watches or warnings for Fort Hood at this time. The 3d Weather Squadron and the 26th Operational Weather Squadron (Air Force regional weather center) will continue to monitor the situation closely and issue watches and warnings as conditions warrant. REMEMBER... A Weather Watch provides advance notice to designated agencies of the existence of a potential for weather conditions of such intensity as to pose a hazard to life or property for which the agency should consider taking protective measures. A Weather Warning alerts designated agencies to the imminent or actual occurrence of weather conditions of such intensity as to pose a hazard to life or property for which the agency must take immediate protective actions.
