Poverty isnt a good thing to be desired, and undoubtedly, laziness, foolish life choices, and ignorance are major factors why people are poor, however some great people have lived austere lives by choice because they were divinely inspired, etc and not because they were lazy, ignorant or foolish e.g; #The president of Uruguay, Jose Mujica is considered the worlds poorest president. He is far from being lazy, foolish or ignorant. #Rosa Parks, Americas civil right activist was incredibly powerful but she did not use this power for financial gain. #Mahatma Ghandi believed that poverty is the worse form of violence, but Indias respected father of the nation lived a very simple and frugal lifestyle. #Mother Teresa. GODliness with contentment is great gain. Bible characters who were poor; #John the Baptist - Matthew 3:4. #Elijah-1 Kings 17. #Paul - Acts 18:3. #Lazarus - Luke 16:19-31. #And Yeshuah Hamashiach - Luke 9:58; Matthew 8:20.etc Other factors that constitute to make people poor; famine and natural disasters, armed robbery, war, oppression of the rich, sickness, and the loss of a bread winner etc So it is careless, insensitive, and wicked to label every poor person as either lazy, foolish, or ignorant. The rich have as much life troubles as the poor, and it is totally unscriptural to use the Bible to elevate the rich over the poor or to make riches an end to be pursued. Matthew 6:33 is clear and explicit about what a true christians pursuit should be.
