Power and strength. A stronger athlete with practice should in theory always be able to produce more force/power than a weaker athlete. The ability to apply power on the bike is something that had to be learned on a bike. Sure you can and should do power training in the gym but whats most important in my opinion is strength. My client Martinette Van Vuuren beating her previous best deadlift of 107.5 by 15 kgs with a massive 122.5 kg deadlift in preparation for the state titles !! AMAZING
