Practical Advice from the last week of my school program: Be Curious Photographer Steve McCurry wisely states that you must have insatiable curiosity to be a good photographer. Keep your eyes open, be attentive, and be inquisitive about the world around you. Be observant and pay attention to the details. This open-mindedness can lead to many unexpected or unplanned possibilities in your work. Take Creative Risks Challenge yourself, and take creative risks. As we talked about in earlier modules, it will be important to break out of comfort zones and familiar routine in order to sufficiently discover and effect your vision as a photographer. Make Mistakes Taking creative risks means you will likely make some mistakes or try some things that just dont work out as you would wish. All artists do. Be willing to make mistakes, lots of them. Yet be sure to learn from such mistakes. Making a mistake once is called learning; making the same mistake repeatedly is carelessness. Try, and Keep Trying Having fortitude as an artist is critical. There will be times when you are frustrated, and your images are just not turning out the way you want. You may occasionally need to step back from a project to gain new perspective, but never give up. Keep your momentum up. You will find that patience and determination are what allow artistic breakthroughs. For anyone who needs to be encouraged today!
