Prafulla Kaman Prafulla Kaman PASIGHAT, Mar 11: Border Road Organization (BRO), who has been entrusted with restructuring of NH-52 in Arunachal Pradesh, is yet to repair the eroded portion of Siku RCC bridge located in between Ayeng village and Mebo town. The eroded portion of the highway at right abutment of the bridge is putting movement of heavy vehicles along the road at risk. The right abutment of the RCC bridge was eroded by turbulent Siku river last monsoon and disrupted road communication along the road. The strong current of the river every year breaches the right approach road of the Siku bridge disrupting surface communication. This daily during July last year covered a series of reports highlighting public demand for special preventive measure of the problem, which had drawn attention of the district administration and the construction agency. Then East Siang Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Shrivastava had visited Siku bridge site and took up the matter with BRO officials. But the preventive measure taken by the authority did not work as the river wave again breached it. The BRO later made an effort to canalize the water flow towards left side to control erosion. It also assured to construct guide bundh with boulder wire cage on river bank for controlling further erosion. But, the agency is yet to start the protection work, which is causing a great deal of dissatisfaction among the people. The BRO has neither repaired the breached portion at Siku bridge-point nor started protection works so far. The local people are in apprehension of the fact that surging water of Siku river might enter into the plain area on its right bank and sweep away Ayeng village and destroy fertile crop lands if an early protection measure is not initiated. The locals further alleged that the BRO is not applying the right technology to control the flow of Siku river.
