Praise God for answered prayers! Please continue to play through her treatment and surgery. Thank you one and all!!! Here is an update on my sister Beth - Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. Psalm 37:5 My dear Prayer Warriors, the Lord has heard our prayers!! The encouragement we received today is truly an answer to prayer. Beths scan did NOT show any tumors beyond where already known. In addition, the scan did NOT light up in the liver, nor the ovary which is good news. The entire staff at Dr. Shahs office was excellent, answering our questions and providing information that helped us understand the road before us. Beth will begin injecting 3 times a day a medicine (Sandostatin) that will help to bring down some of the hormones the carcinoid is producing that makes her feel so crampy and ill. This will also alleviate chances of a carcinoid crisis during and after surgery, as the one hormone this particular carcinoid produces tends to damage heart valves. She is scheduled on Monday for a pelvic ultrasound to get a better understanding of what is going on with the ovary (Beth has had cysts on this ovary in the past) in order to help assess what needs to be done during surgery. Dr. Shah concurs that the right kidney is probably compromised beyond saving, but assured Beth that the other will serve her well during and after treatments. Wednesday, if she is tolerating the medicine well enough, she will get a larger injection that will last a month, and we will also meet with a nutritionist on staff. Thursday is still a go to meet with Dr. Bloomston to finalize a surgery date. Surgery is the best defense against this type of cancer. I need to praise God and give Him all the glory. This has been such an emotional rollercoaster and a hurry up and wait game. I cannot tell you how many times your emails or posts have helped to lift our spirits at exactly the moment we needed it. I truly believe that the Lord has placed in our path the very best group of doctors. I said to Beth as we were leaving, its as if the very course of our lives led us to Columbus to be right down the street from one of the best carcinoid cancer centers in America. How AWESOME is our God!! He Worketh!
