Prayer Study Week 2 Day 1: Read Isaiah 40:10-17, 28-31 Take 10-13 minutes to write a “love letter” to Wylie United Methodist Church. (How long has it been since you wrote a love letter??) What are the similarities between your letter and the verses from Isaiah? Day 2 Read Mark 10:46-52 Bartimaeus was brave. He was brave enough to pester Jesus and brave enough to ask for his sight. Are we that brave? Can we pester Jesus (pray constantly) to ask for our sight? Or might we be afraid of what we could see? Pray a prayer that I may see with God’s love. Day 3 Read I Thessalonians 1:1-5, Ephesians 6:18-20 In one passage the pastor (Paul) says he is praying for the church members and their work. In the other passage he is asking FOR prayer for his work of the church. Are you doing both – praying for the church and asking others to pray for you and your work in the church? Pray a prayer that the Church will work for love. Day 4 Read Psalm 66 Making a joyful noise is tied in this psalm to bringing an offering. Granted that you’re probably NOT going to bring a burnt offering or a bull or goat, what WILL you offer to God’s work? A kind word? Time in mission? An extra gift in the offering plate? Standing at the door to greet? Pray a prayer that your joy will be reflected in your giving love and that your giving love will bring you joy. Day 5 Read James 5:13-18 James tells us to pray with others; this whole passage is in “plural”: the suffering, the cheerful, the sick, the elders. Call someone (your partner from last week? One of the 3 from your group in class?), and pray with them and for them. Pray that your reaching out in prayer brings stronger Christian love. Day 6 Sing (aloud or to yourself) “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found. Was blind but now I see.” Day 7 Take Sabbath. (catch up from a prior day if needed) Pray the Lord’s Prayer.
